Primary Responsibilities
HDR is looking for an experienced Substation Designer to join our growing and nationally ranked team of Power Delivery professionals.
The primary duties of this position will include the preparation of engineering drawings, calculations, reports and designs for electrical substations (low, medium and high voltage) and substation systems to support engineers.
Will work independently to perform substation design tasks, CADD design, develop design drawings and documents, modeling and/or analysis, prepare material lists, perform field reviews, and other tasks for simple to moderately complex projects.
May be expected to perform most design responsibilities without assistance on simple to moderately complex projects, and may work independently but with some engineering guidance on complex projects.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years of experience developing electrical substation design drawings.
Proficiency using Microsoft Office, AutoCAD and PLS CAD a bonus.
Ability to work closely with engineering staff, and interface with client engineers, designers and document control staff
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
Preferred Qualifications
MicroStation proficiency and 3D experience is a plus
Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm or utility desired
Experience in both the protection and control (indoor) and physical (outdoor) aspects of high voltage (HV) substation design
Experience with substation design including one line diagrams, general arrangements sections, grounding & conduit plans, foundation plans, material lists (BOM), relay and control systems schematics and wiring diagrams
Ability to independently make design and engineering decisions for low to moderately complex projects with minimal oversight
Ability to work directly with clients and strong communication skills
Local candidates are preferred
