Community Advocate

at KFI in Portland, Maine, United States

Job Description

My name is Laura. I have my own apartment in Portland. I love the beach, classic rock, dancing, skiing, and new adventures. I have two cats that are always up to something around the house, and a raised flower garden to tend right outside my door. I love a good laugh – the kind that goes all the way from your belly and makes it so you can’t breathe. I am a disability advocate, and would love a volunteer position supporting children with disabilities to see all the possibilities they have in life. I use a wheelchair to get around, but don’t let that scare you. It doesn’t scare me! In fact, with the help of my team I do lots of things on my own. Let me be clear; I am not looking for caretakers. I am seeking a Community Advocate to add to my team who won’t hold me back. The support I need is to live my life on my own terms, along with all the big stuff that entails. If you have a twisted sense of humor, like to be busy, and aren’t afraid of new things; perhaps you are a fit for my awesome team? Full time and Part time available: including evenings and weekends. KFI’s mission is to support people with disabilities to lead regular lives, in their communities; same not different! We assist people to live in their own homes, while working and fully participating in their communities. Interested? We would love to talk to you! $750 New Hire stipend paid out over your first year.
