Summary
The computational sciences group at The Jackson Laboratory is seeking an Associate Director (AD) to lead its Computational Sciences Systems Biology (CS-SB) group. The successful candidate will lead a specialized group of computational biologists and analysts to understand the systems biology needs of the JAX research and services along with independently leading research and operations in systems biology.

The CS-SB group specializes in carrying out hi-quality research related to the areas of/relevant to statistical genetics/systems biology in collaboration with the research faculty, translational technologies, business units, groups within CS, and other scientific services; develop methods and pipelines for use by the JAX researchers and services; conduct training and education in bioinformatics technologies.

The Associate Director of Systems Biology will report to the Director of Computational Sciences-Biostatistics and Technologies (CS-BST) group, and under limited supervision, manages its collaborations and informatics operations.

The Associate Director of Systems Biology will define the group's technology vision, develop internal and external collaborations and alliances, and work closely across appropriate CS groups. The position offers impactful leadership and collaborative research opportunities at the forefront of biomedical research.

Key Responsibilities
Architect vision and roadmap for CS-SB and adjust it according to changing needs of JAX.
Mentor, develop, and manage the CS-SB team of about 10 computational biologists/analysts, with about 3-5 direct reports.
Develop teams of specialization and integrate them into research programs and departments.
Work with the other CS team leaders and program manager towards effort allocation and project management.
Develop organizational and growth strategy for managing CS-SB and its operations.
Contribute to external and internal grant applications.
Work closely with a program manager and the Directors of CS-BST in all aspects of CS-BST management, growth, and budgeting for the group.
Contribute to the data science educational efforts at JAX.
Communicate group strategy and project results to internal and external groups

Experience & Education
A Ph.D. in Statistical Genetics, Biostatistics or Computer Science with at least 8 years of research experience. Candidates with a Ph.D. in computer science, physics, or mathematics with a research experience in systems biology supported by a strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals are eligible.
In-depth understanding of biostatistics, systems biology and statistical genetics and reasonable experience in the field of AI/ML.
Demonstrated ability to communicate and organize multi-PI projects and collaborations.
Experienced in management methods and techniques as they apply to people, projects and processes
