Job Description

The Laboratory Automation Engineer will utilize their expertise to continue to build and lead laboratory automation efforts at JAX as part of the Transgenic Genotyping Service based out of Bar Harbor, ME. The candidate will leverage specialties in both robotic and digital automation in order to provide solutions which will lead to measurable improvements in KPIs. The candidate will also need to be willing to travel to our Sacramento site on an infrequent basis.
Develop, manage and implement automation efforts: Develop a portfolio of prioritized automation projects. Set clear deliverables, timelines and milestones. Independently run or lead teams in the completion of defined projects. Monitor metrics for pre and post implementation and work with management to calculate ROIs. Act in a consultant capacity if requested. Set up comprehensive trials when developing new automation platforms and negotiate with external vendors on pricing, deliverables and timelines.
Automation support: Provide technical support by troubleshooting and debugging systems. Coordinate with external vendors for service calls and preventative maintenance. Maintain work logs for systems across JMCRS. Perform regular volume verification and other quality control measures for automated systems across JMCRS.
Prepare and maintain training materials, process documents and SOPs: Ensure all automation efforts have thorough and detailed documentation prior to implementation.
Bachelor's Degree in a technical field
Five years of experience with laboratory automation, methods development, programming and genomics.
Five years of experience programming, troubleshooting and using liquid handlers - Hamilton Vantage, Tecan Fluent or similar
Three or more years of experience with VoV (Venus on Vantage), INSTINCT V or other relevant automation language
Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and APIs
Experience with Excel required, VBA experience preferred
Proficiency with Python preferred
Demonstrated ability to create and contribute to a positive, professional, high performance environment
