CURRENT VACANCY INFORMATION
The Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland, Maine has a current vacancy for Psychiatric Social Worker II. This position is open to current Maine DOC employees as well as outside applicants.
This is professional services work involving the rehabilitation and adjustment of Juveniles who have or have had serious mental, emotional, and behavioral disturbances. Work is conducted in an institutional setting and is characterized by frequent contacts with treatment teams, families, and community organizations in planning for the treatment and placement of clients.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM THE JOB SUCCESSFULLY:
+ Knowledge of social aspects of mental disease and mental deficiency and of modern methods of treatment.
+ Knowledge of psychiatric social casework principles and techniques.
+ Knowledge of home finding and placement methods and practices.
+ Knowledge of community resources.
+ Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
+ Ability to develop and maintain cooperative relationships with patients and their families.
+ Ability to interview and counsel patients and families.
+ Ability to interpret casework program to and community and social agencies
+ Ability to prepare clear, concise, and comprehensive social case records.
A Master’s Degree in Social Work including courses in psychiatric social work and one (1) year experience in psychiatric social work
OR an acceptable equivalent combination of training and experience.
