Job Description

Instrument Technicians work as a member of a Scientific Instrument Services team providing expertise in electrical, electronic, and mechanical repair of scientific equipment at the Bar Harbor facility.

Key Responsibilities:
Instrument Technician 1 (IT1) works in conjunction with other Equipment Repair personnel, handling daily operations and deliverables of the Equipment Repair Service (EQRS), Fabrication Service, Shared Equipment, and Shared Facilities at JMG.
Follows established SOP's to successfully and safely perform preventative maintenance actions, diagnose equipment performance problems, secure appropriate replacement parts, and complete repairs of scientific instrumentation.

Associates Degree in a technical field and 2+ years of relevant experience in a research lab environment OR general understanding of electrical circuitry, a basic understanding of electronics, and/or an understanding of mechanical systems; usually attained through vocational/trade school
Must be comfortable interacting with a wide range of users and service providers, working and contributing to an operational team environment.
Excellent Customer Service skills
Good understanding of laboratory equipment operations and troubleshooting.
Proficiency in using computers (both Mac and PC) and various software packages, e.g. Word, Excel, Data Management Systems, etc. is required.
Possess good reasoning and problem-solving skills.
Must have the ability to perform physical tasks on a regular basis, including manipulating heavy or bulky scientific equipment up to 50 lbs.
