EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR

Police Department – The Portland Police Department is seeking a highly motivated individual to fill the position of Emergency Communication Director for the Portland Regional Communications Center. The PRCC is one of 24 PSAPs in the state. This is an important management position within the Portland Police Department. The Emergency Communications Director performs administrative and managerial oversight involved in planning, organizing, and directing overall activities of the Portland Regional Communications Center for Portland, South Portland, and Cape Elizabeth. This individual oversees all staffing and monitors the work of the Telecommunications Supervisors and Telecommunicators to determine compliance with State laws, police, fire & EMS dispatching procedures, and department standards.  

Requirements:  Proven management and supervisory experience. Full understanding of the operation of an emergency communications center. Must be able to obtain full certification by the State of Maine as an emergency telecommunicator and maintain these certifications. Associate’s or bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field or the combination of education and or work in the field of emergency communications. Understanding of the general mechanical principle of automated communications equipment.  

Necessary Special Requirements: Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Maine Class C driver’s license. Offers of employment are contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory criminal background check, including a polygraph examination. 

Salary range: $80,645 to $99,177 annually.
