The University of Maine at Augusta’s Bangor campus invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track A ssistant Professor of Dental Health. This is a nine-month, academic year appointment that is based in Bangor. Some in state travel may be required to supervise students at extramural/extended clinical facilities. The major duties of the position are teaching in-person and online and advising students. Teaching assignments may include didactic, preclinical, clinical and laboratory teaching primarily in the Dental Hygiene Program. Participation in professional and institutional service and scholarly activity is also expected. The anticipated start date is August of 2022. Programs are delivered on campus and using a network of University centers and sites across the state and internationally. The University offers general education and degree specific courses using modalities including in-person, video conferencing, and online instruction. The successful candidate will be active in university service through student advising, curriculum development, committee activity, and community outreach. + Minimum of a Master’s degree in dental hygiene, health, education, or a related discipline or currently matriculated in a Master’s degree program

+ Maine licensed RDH with local anesthesia authority in good standing (or eligibility at the time of hire); or DMD/DDS with a Maine license in good standing or eligibility for licensure at the time of hire

+ Three years of clinical practice experience

+ Previous successful teaching experience in higher education preferably in dental hygiene

+ Ability to travel statewide as needed

Preferred Qualifications:

+ Successful teaching experience in higher education using varied e-learning modalities and/or proficiency in teaching using online learning management systems (LMS) (e.g. Brightspace, Blackboard, Canvas)

+ The ability to integrate appropriate technology and/or software in teaching (e.g. Zoom, Smart-Classroom)

+ Knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office programs (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Docs, One Drive, and with electronic dental records software (e.g. Eaglesoft, Dentrix, etc.)

+ Active engagement in professional development, service, and scholarly activities and professional associations

Other Information: Salary: A typical salary for this academic-year appointment falls in the low-to-mid 50s and is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
