SUMMARY: The Water and Sewer Service Person performs a wide variety of maintenance and construction related to the installation and repair to water and sewer infrastructure.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Must have a High School Diploma, or equivalent. Must have five (5) or more years experience in water and sewer construction, maintenance and infrastructure. Must have, or be able to obtain, a State of Maine Water Supply System Class II certification and a Cross Connection Control certification. A valid Class B Maine Driver’s License (Class A license preferred) with the ability to obtain “N” tank vehicle endorsement is required. If not currently licensed as Class B operator, must be able to obtain within first six (6) months of employment.
WORK ACTIVITIES: Act as a crew leader for crews engaged in various water and sewer tasks including laying out work for crew members and keeping accurate records of time and materials used. Complete skilled tasks involving water and sewer main services, hydrants and manholes. Operate utility installation, sewer flushing and rodding equipment and perform minor maintenance on such equipment. Repair, install, read and disconnect meters. Turn services on/off, operate gates and hydrants, and test backflow preventers. Perform inspections for the Cross Connection Control Program and TV inspections of sewer lines. All Water and Sewer staff must be available for emergency response in all seasons, including after normal working hours for water, sewer and snow removal operations. Performs other duties as required.
