Job Description

The Jackson Laboratory is seeking a Technical Information Scientist (TIS) with training in human disease modeling using mouse models for our Bar Harbor, ME campus.

The successful candidate will be a self-motivated research scientist excited about science but looking for an alternative to a career writing grants and performing traditional bench work. The primary focus of this position is to assist investigators worldwide via email and phone inquiries to achieve their scientific goals using a solutions-based approach.

Key Responsibilities:
Respond to scientific inquiries from outside researchers and internal JAX Mice & Clinical Research Services (JMCRS) staff in a thorough, professional, and efficient manner through email, phone, and teleconference. This includes demonstrating in-depth scientific knowledge on JMCRS resources and service offerings and their use in research, conducting technical investigations, and accurate case recording in the CRM database.
Develop and deliver presentations and tutorials by virtual or in-person seminars, meetings, and road shows to educate customers about JMCRS resources and service offerings.
Contribute to the development, editing, and scientific review of online resources including white papers, blogs, model lists, fliers/handouts.
Develop Subject Matter Expertise (SME) in mouse modeling of human disease including but not limited to antibody therapeutics, gene and cellular therapy, immunology, oncology, metabolic disease, aging, and genetic diversity. Additional broad-based knowledge comes from reading current literature, attending seminars and participating in scientific conferences.
Demonstrate commitment to creating a high-performance culture and positive work environment. Includes continued effort toward improving the customer experience, coping with and supporting change, commitment to a solution driven approach to problem solving, and embracing leadership opportunities, especially in training other JMCRS staff.
Qualifications
PhD in the biological sciences, with extensive expertise in mouse modeling of human disease. Desired areas of research include, but not limited to, commercial pharmacology, antibody therapeutics, gene and cell therapy, immunology, and oncology. Any commercial experience is extremely desired, especially around safety, toxicity, GLP, and IND-enabling studies.
Experience in colony management, Mendelian genetics, multiallelic crosses, model creation and characterization, troubleshooting, study design and execution highly desired.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, evidenced by publications and scientific or educational presentations. A cover letter demonstrating your attention to detail and describing what you would do to improve our team or organization would be of particular interest.
At least one year of experience in a customer service, sales, or teaching environment desired.
Ability to operate with a high level of independence while still maintaining effective communication with the team. Ability to effectively prioritize and complete multiple projects, while also contributing to the team's shared workload. Leadership qualities highly desired.
