Generac Power Systems is seeking a Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Design Engineer I. This position will be part of the Product Development engineering team based in South Portland, Maine. The PCB Design Engineer is responsible for managing the printed circuit board development process, from schematic capture and PCB layout, to library creation & maintenance across multiple sites, and working with vendors for PCB fabrication and assembly.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Designs and validates PCB designs for new product development
Perform schematic capture and create PCB layout
PCB library component/footprint creation and management
Present PCBA designs at design reviews
Collaborate with operations, PCB fabricators and contract manufacturers to optimize PCBA designs for manufacturability
Generate detailed, accurate documentation to facilitate PCB and board build procurement
Create PCBA revisions in response to Engineering Change Notices
Perform revision control of PCB and PCBA
PCB design workflow process development and management

Minimal Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, or related discipline
At least 6 months of relevant PCB layout experience, including multilayer PCBs with surface mount technology components
Experience with component library creation and maintenance

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Altium Designer in both schematic capture and PCB layout
Understanding the wide range of PCB fabrication techniques and capabilities
Understanding of electronics hardware and schematics
Familiarity with Design for Test (DFT) and Design for Manufacturability (DFM) for high volume production
Understanding of relevant standards for PCB designs (e.g. IPC, UL)

"Nice to Have" Qualifications:

Familiarity with power electronic components, circuits and layout
Familiarity with EMI mitigation with PCB layout techniques
Experience with PCBA integration with 3D mechanical modeling software
Knowledgeable about clean energy
Soldering skills to be able to assemble prototype PCBA

Ability to perform detail-oriented work with a high degree of accuracy
Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work in a collaborative environment
Ability to translate technical information to all audiences
Uses basic engineering knowledge to solve problems, improve products or services
Enthusiasm for learning and engagement with disciplines outside of comfort zone
Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Physical demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job include are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus.
