The Database Administrator's role is to design, install, monitor, maintain, and performance tune production databases while ensuring high levels of data availability. This individual is also responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and their accompanying software.
Monitor database system details within the database, including stored procedures and execution time, and implement efficiency improvements.
Investigates and resolves technical issues including those escalated by the IT Service Desk, PC Techs, IT analysts, programmers and project managers. Collaborates and engages appropriate technical and business resources, including technical support from product manufacturers and vendors, to determine root cause and resolve issues in a timely manner.
Design and implement redundant systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery and data archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of data assets.
Provides subject matter expertise in database technologies for IT projects and initiatives and support the implementation of those projects. This includes provisioning new or upgrading systems and following best practice standards and design.
Assess and develop long-term strategic goals for production databases in conjunction with data owners and department managers.
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering or related field plus 5 years of relevant experience.
Working technical experience with designing, building, installing, configuring and supporting database servers specifically using Microsoft SQL Server. Experience with other database platforms including Oracle is a plus.
Ability to interact with all individuals in a productive, professional and positive manner to enhance the outcome of the goals of the research program
Demonstrated team player with professional, positive attitude and willingness to be flexible
Self-motivated with the ability to organize time effectively, demonstrated ability to manage details
Strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices.
Hands-on database tuning and troubleshooting experience
Industry certifications for contemporary Microsoft SQL Server version or versions
On-call availability is required
