Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

  • Planning, directing and coordinating all accounting operational functions.
  • Oversee coordination and preparation of internal and external financial reporting, including complete and accurate financial statements and disclosures in accordance with GAAP and SEC regulations. This includes filings of Form 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, 3, 4 and 5, and any others as needed.
  • Oversee internal controls and SOX compliance within the Accounting department, including design, documentation, and operation, and assist in organizational internal controls compliance working closely with internal audit and other business lines.
  • Monitor, review, and assess impact of relevant FASB, SEC and other regulatory guidance to ensure compliance. Work with external accountants, legal counsel and regulators, as well as present at the Audit Committee.
  • Oversee regulatory reporting, including reports to the FRB, FDIC and OCC, and tax planning and compliance
  • Oversee key corporate accounting functions, including general ledger maintenance and routine account reconciliations, accounts payable, fixed assets, and income taxes.
  • Maintain written policies and procedures related to Accounting and Financial Reporting functions.
  • Ensures work is properly allocated and deadlines are met. Mentor and develop staff.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as required.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities                                                    

Lead a team of 7-10 employees in Accounting and Financial Reporting through the management of subordinate managers.  Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the team.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience                                                   

Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree in business preferred but not required.

 

Language Skills                                                

Strong ability and experience reading and interpreting documents, including technical accounting and financial reporting documents, and operating and maintenance policies and procedures.

 

Strong ability to write internal and external reports and document accounting judgments, conclusions and policies.

 

Strong ability to speak effectively before small to large groups of employees, including executive and senior management, and to members of the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors.

 

Reasoning Ability                                             

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) with at least five years related experience in technical FASB, SEC and SOX work.

Work Location

Work onsite directly with the Accounting and Financial Reporting team at its Camden, Maine office at least three days per work. May work from a remote location 1-2 days per week but must have consistent and reliable means to the internet and a telephone. The remote work location must have a proper working office.
