This individual in this position is responsible for dynamic leadership of the Genetic Engineering Technologies (GET), Reproductive Sciences (RS), and Transgenic Genotyping (TGS) Teams,
continually seeking and driving scientific innovation, improved performance, higher quality and increased effectiveness of scientific operations toward creating world-leading operations with significant scientific differentiation to advance research and provide a world-class customer experience. The incumbent is responsible for strategic operations service capacity planning and
growth, efficiency gain, staff development, and working collaboratively with internal teams and Research staff to identify and implement cutting-edge techniques and technologies to achieve the teams goals and objectives.

What distinguishes the grade level of incumbents is the level of supervision required, independent judgment used, complexity of projects, proficiency in problem solving, range and years of experience, education, background and specialized knowledge. The Director, Genetic Engineering Technologies, Reproductive Sciences and Transgenic genotyping core must be exceptionally independent and effective at establishing and executing on strategic direction and overcoming
challenges to achieve the desired result.
* Dynamic leadership and staff development - The incumbent oversees a group of 20-30 individuals (including ~3-5 direct reports) in GET, RS, and TGS operations that are responsible for execution of model and cohort development service offerings spanning across Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Embryo Manipulation, Reproductive Sciences and Viral Vector technologies. He/She/They are responsible for establishing a strong leadership team and a high performance culture where staff are empowered, challenged, and mentored to grow to their fullest potential. Includes developing employee career paths and evolving the team to meet changing business needs, fostering a culture of openness to change and a 'one-team' approach both within the individual groups and across the broader RS/GET/TGS group to ensure a 'services without borders' approach to maximum impact of staff talent, experience and resources. The incumbent establishes departmental performance metrics and expectations and holds supervisory staff accountable to ensure staff development and achievement of department goals and objectives.
* Strategic direction and scientific innovation - Establishes and maintains a culture of continuous improvement and cutting-edge innovation. Stays current in relevant emerging technologies and works closely and collaboratively with Scientific Staff Advisors, key internal Research Staff Scientists and thought leaders to drive continuous innovation that keeps Jackson on the leading
edge of model development capabilities to forward internal and external research programs. Develops strategic direction for the team and drives strategic initiatives including research and development efforts to improve quality, service offerings, and customer experience toward establishing the organization as a world-leader in model development and cohort generation. Ensures continuous improvement in capacity toward a high-throughput, scalable operation that maximizes the organizations success while continuously reducing costs,
* Operational oversight and service delivery - Directly or through subordinate supervisors manages scientific operations personnel, is responsible for scheduling work flow, assigning initiatives and tasks, assessing work quality, ensuring employee training, and providing reports and documentation (SOPs, ACUC protocols, policies, etc.). Includes strong leadership in establishing and improving systems (Sharepoint, eLIMS, etc.) and processes that support continuous
monitoring and reporting on team pipeline and performance metrics to ensure high quality, on time service delivery and proactive identification of challenges, pipeline bottlenecks and other efficiency and quality improvement opportunities. Ensures operational capacity grows to meet the service needs. Troubleshoots problems and ensures that personnel development meets the
service standards.
