Training & Development Manager


The Training & Development Manager is responsible for improving employee productivity and organizational effectiveness through development, coordination, delivery and presentation of training and development programs. The Training & Development Manager collaborates with and supports all functional departments of the credit union and will work with Performance Management, subject matter experts and ambassadors to deliver materials as needed.

  • Collaborates with department managers, supervisors and employees to gain knowledge of work situations requiring training and to understand processes, procedures, regulations, and business initiatives.
  • Collaborates with managers to identify and assess training and developmental needs that will drive initiatives.
  • Collaborates with Performance Management on the creation and delivery of training initiatives relevant to ongoing projects.
  • Develops training plans, objectives and curriculum for new employees that include both an overall introduction to the credit union as well as specific training for on the job requirements of the position.
  • Oversees and conducts new employee onboarding orientation and develops assessments to measure progress and evaluate the effectiveness of training; conducts a progress review with employee and hiring manager, based upon performance on assessment and observations in training, recommends employee for advancement in training or creates remedial plan.
  • Develops training materials to include testing and evaluation processes and maintains the resources and procedures documents on the Infinet ensuring that the information is current and relevant.
  • Manages the Infinet and ensures relevant and up to date content. Collaborates with various page owners to ensure content is current and accessible.
  • Prepares and maintains the training budget and forecast; recommends and plans for training and development needs and develops or sources programs to fit the needs ensuring programs are within budget.
  • Conducts or coordinates annual compliance, all staff, and sales and service training to include, but not limited to Security Policy, Secure Communications, and BSA training; ensures timely completion and documentation of training.
  • Manages the credit union’s online training system (BAI).
  • Creates certificate or curriculum programs to offer learning and development opportunities; creates recognition and reward programs to encourage employee development.
  • Develops and delivers training and documentation for new hires in all roles, new products and services, processes and procedures as well as refresher training as needed- includes teller training, member specialist training and loan training along with all other departmental training needs. 
  • Coordinate and facilitate training sessions; develops multi-modal curriculum and instructional strategies (face to face, virtual, job shadow, and stand-alone) which includes working side-by-side in branch scenarios.
  • Keeps abreast of new developments, methods, and techniques in the training field.

      Knowledge Of:

  • Budget impacts of training and development programs.
  • HR Practices.
  • All Credit Union products and services and ability to discuss them in detail.
  • How the credit union operates and its policies regarding savings, lending, and deposit account usage.
  • Project management discipline.


      Ability To:

  • Work cooperatively with others in a team environment and communicate effectively in writing and orally, one-on-one and in group settings.
  • React positively to developments and help lead the way forward to include new developments in training
  • Utilize leadership skills to effectively provide training programs and evaluate comprehension and application of subject material
  • Operate a PC using the following software applications: Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and the credit union’s core processing system
  • Be flexible and handle multiple projects.
  • Lead by example and foster mentoring relationships.
  • Create momentum and foster organizational change.
  • Set goals and meet deadlines.
  • Make decisions and provide objective feedback.



Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Communications or Organizational Development, or equivalent experience plus a minimum of four years of experience in a HR/OD leadership role. 

      License or Certification:

  • Ability to become a certified trainer for applicable sales and service programs

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit.  The employee is occasionally required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or control; reach with hands and arms.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.  Close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus are required by this job.


Occasional overnight travel may be required.



This job operates in a professional office environment.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and fax machines.
