Summary

Under the strategic direction of the Senior Manager, the IT Disaster Recovery Manager is responsible for ensuring the IT organization is prepared for and able to respond to and recover from a disaster impacting one of The Jackson Laboratory's data centers. In this position, the incumbent will be responsible for the planning and execution of IT Disaster Recovery (DR) exercises/events, the creation and maintenance of the DR exercise/event process, run books, procedures, post event reports and other artifacts as required to ensure successful DR exercises/events. The incumbent will interact with various stakeholders across the Lab including Director and Senior Director-level senior leadership to advocate for IT disaster recovery and drive process adoption.

 

Responsibilities

Mature IT Disaster Recovery Capabilities

Assess current state of IT DR and develop, update, or improve the overall and specific DR plans.

Guide IT Application Services to appropriate DR capability levels by identifying and prioritizing Service candidates for Disaster Recovery as an ongoing activity/service within Service lifecycles.

Operating within available resource capacity, test the Disaster Recovery Plan via live disaster recovery events.

Inspect and update DR plans and/or work instructions annually, while aligning with any new technology or service components or business/security/compliance considerations.

Test DR plans via predetermined occurrence of Live DR Events to validate level of confidence in recovery rating.

 

Disaster Recovery (DR) Service Management

Establish and manage an IT DR Service to a level that will confidently achieve the recovery objectives per identified business, contractual or compliance requirements.

Develop and maintain standard processes, work instructions and other exercise artifacts using industry standards and practices.

Establish and monitor current state of IT disaster recovery via inspection, audit, checklists, scorecard, etc. resulting in confidence rating for each application and service.

Ensure status of the DR program and associated DR events are monitored, measured and communicated with key stakeholders.

Schedule and execute disaster recovery exercises, coordinate resources, facilitate events, communicate status, produce post exercise reporting and ensure issues identified are mitigated.

Work with Application Service providers in the delivery of DR events/services, post event reporting and issue remediation.

Work with and across internal and external stakeholders to ensure achievement of policy, regulatory and customer-mandated obligations/constraints for IT disaster events.

Participate in and provide oversight of disaster recovery requirements for IT Change Management and IT Project Delivery Processes, understand implications to DR Event requirements.

Support IT DR training and awareness campaigns and efforts. Assist in coordinating continuity and recovery efforts in the event of a disaster by facilitating communications, assisting with the recovery process and organizing post event debriefs.

 

Educate, Promote, and Support Disaster Recovery

Develop methodologies, standards, templates, and processes directly and indirectly to improve IT disaster recovery capabilities. New IT employee DR onboarding.

Support business continuity efforts as identified, including Business Continuity Plans and/or the Corporate Incident Response/Crisis Management, and Incident Management/Response plans/activities

 

Other Duties

 

Manage DR projects as required.

Maintain knowledge of current trends and new technologies in related areas.

Occasional travel to other JAX sites.

 

Qualifications

8+ Years relevant experience working in an Information Security or Information Technology organization

Experienced IT Disaster Recovery professional, with a successful track record leading moderately complex technology organizations through actual and practiced disaster scenarios

Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field; or the equivalent in education and work experience

Related certification from recognized industry standards body (i.e. ISO, DRI, BCI) or the ability to obtain certification within 1 year of hire.

Proven project/program/portfolio management, with a successful track record of delivery and effective verbal and non-verbal communication. PMP certification a plus.
