Job Description

Apprenticeship is an educational and career opportunity unlike any other, and is often equated to as a $250,000 scholarship. We offer high quality, comprehensive apprenticeship opportunities for highly motivated students interested in getting a college degree while being launched into a shipbuilding career. Since 1950, the BIW Apprentice School has produced over 1,250 graduates in support of the operational needs of Bath Iron Works. Every day, our apprentices push new boundaries of achievement and explore new opportunities in a complex and challenging workplace. Come with us and earn while you learn, and gain the pride that comes with building ships for the United States Navy.

The program combines both academic and on-the-job training that, upon completion, provides at a minimum coursework leading to an Associate of Science degree, but could also lead to a full bachelor's or master's degree. In addition to a college education, BIW Apprentices will also receive a Certificate of Apprenticeship from the State of Maine and a diploma signifying graduation from the prestigious BIW Apprentice School.

Popular apprenticeship offerings are listed below. Apprentices are selected and hired to the program as vacancies occur. On-the-job training begins immediately after hire, while academic course work begins within the first six months of the apprenticeship. Upon completion, you will remain gainfully employed in your residing occupation. However, you will be positioned well for advancement into a variety of professional occupations needed throughout company.
