Status: Full-Time (37.5 hours/week; M-F 8:00am – 4:30pm)
Grade: 6 [$25.43 - $37.58/hour]
SUMMARY: The Land Use Planner has knowledge of the principles and practices of planning and development, community design, and land use regulations to help the Planning and Code Enforcement department meet the challenges of growth and associated activity in Lewiston.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s Degree is required from a four-year college or university in planning, public administration or related field (Master’s Degree preferred). A combination of education and 3-5 years direct municipal experience in planning may also be considered. Candidate should possess working or advanced knowledge and experience of GIS and its capabilities. Ability to obtain State of Maine Code Enforcement Officer certification to assist in administering of zoning and land use ordinance for shore land zoning and land use regulations; Must have a valid State of Maine Driver’s License and a personal vehicle available for work.
WORK ACTIVITIES: Provides technical assistance and information to the public regarding development, zoning and land use regulations. Assists with implementation of the comprehensive plan and related special projects. Provides support to the Planning Board, Historic Preservation Review Board, City Council and groups/committees as assigned. Analyzes and researches local and state land use, transportation, and related data and regulations to develop and draft planning and land use documents. Performs the duties of FEMA Community Rating System Coordinator. Reviews, coordinates, and inspects existing and proposed land uses, including development review applications for compliance with local and state regulations. Issues violation abatement orders and initiates legal action when compliance cannot be obtained. Reviews and makes recommendations on applications related to MDEP Site Location of Development. Performa other duties as assigned.
