AMHC’s Crisis Stabilization Unit in Calais is actively recruiting for full time and per diem Children’s Crisis Counselors. This job entails responding to youth and families in crisis. Licensed and highly experienced supervision and training is a cornerstone of the Crisis Unit team approach along with professional consultation and team collaboration. Come join the AMHC Team!


  • Provides immediate, short term, acute crisis intervention services to families to prevent out of home care and psychiatric hospitalization for children and youth. As part of a team, serve client families 24 hours per day, seven days per week, 365 days per year.
  • Crisis Counselors assist in the screening of referrals by gathering pertinent required information from the referring party and review with the Clinical Consultant to make a determination about admission.
  • Conduct intake and orientation sessions for individuals being admitted to the program and developing individualized service agreements, identifying needs and goals of the client and his or her guardian.
  • Assist in the general administrative routine maintenance duties of the facility including assisting clients with laundry and other household chores. 
  • Maintain client records inclusive of daily logs, bed checks, medication administration etc., adhering to AMHC policy and procedure. Be aware of and compliant with the requirements mandated by state regulation and AMHC policy and procedure.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Behavioral Science, Psychology, Social Work, or other human services-related field preferred.

  • An Associate’s Degree in the Human Services related field, plus three years of direct relevant work experience.

  • Will also consider non-college graduates with a High School Diploma plus four years of life/work experience and training with children.

  • MHRT-CSP certification is required to carry out the assigned responsibilities of the position. The MHRT-CSP training will be provided by the agency upon hire

  • Ability to meet with clients at home and in the community, and to transport clients in a safe and effective manner. (Proof of adequate vehicle insurance is required.)
  • Ability to maintain a flexible schedule and work evenings and weekends as needed.
