Job Summary:Reports to the Senior Director of Quality & Patient Safety, the Surgical Quality Program Manager plans and oversees the development, implementation, operation, and daily management of assigned surgical quality programs. Additionally, the position plans and oversees processes that ensure program goals are measured, analyzed, evaluated, reported, and met. The position supports the operational aspects of the assigned program(s), including development of program materials and tools. The position is also accountable for implementing program work plan(s) and assuring the completion of day to day activities.

Job Description:

Key Responsibilities:

+ Uses the results of quality improvement activities to initiate changes in patient care practices and in the healthcare delivery system. Oversees service line efforts to utilize best practices to enhance recovery of surgical patients in a standardized fashion.

+ Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to assist with problem identification and resolution, cost containment issues, implementation of new services, and systems/performance measures. Identifies key clinical quality measures and promotes their use for patient care services

+ Analyzes NSQIP results and develops and implements action plans based on those results. Analyzes referral data to develop outreach plans.

+ Oversees the implementation of compliance and regulatory changes related to surgical quality program updates. Supports the development of educational programs/materials for the medical and lay communities that describe how to access surgical care for the broad range of specific conditions managed by general surgery.


+ Maine state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) required.

+ At least 2 years of clinical experience in a surgical setting

+ At least 2 years of experience in Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement work

+ National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) certification or successfully obtained within 3 months of hire required.

+ Experience involving analyses of health care data and clinical program development

+ Excellent influencing skills

+ Self-motivation and the ability to work independently and with multidisciplinary teams

+ Excellent technical, assessment and documentation skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel and other databases.
