The Sr. Project Engineer is responsible for implementing Cianbro's established contract administration standards for estimating and operations. The Sr. Project Engineer reviews and negotiates assigned contracts, as well as assists operations with contract administration, troubleshooting contractual issues, and dispute resolution. This is intended to be a developmental position rotating through contracts for a period of 1 to 3 years. Alternatively, this may develop into a permanent role in support of the business.
Undertakes independent review and markup of contract documents provided as part of requests for proposals.
Independently reviews contracts and provides clarifications and exceptions to commercial terms.
Assist purchasing department, equipment group, and other internal customers in negotiating agreements with subcontractors, vendors, and other downstream entities.
Provide training and advice to project teams on managing contract requirements.
Assist operations in contract analysis and interpretation, including general contract management as well as the resolution of contract disputes, claims, and significant change orders.
Assist in claim management and action plan development.
Attend various project update meetings.
Work with managers and project staff within assigned business units.
Report to Contract Manager to ensure risk profiles fit within those desired by Cianbro.
Interact with clients, consultants, and contractors during the performance of job responsibilities.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum of 3 years work experience in contract administration or project engineering and controls.
Must possess and demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Must be team-oriented with a reputation for honesty and integrity.
Ability to shift easily between projects and priorities.
Ability to manage multiple deadlines.
Strong sense of urgency in the accurate completion of tasks.
Ability to work effectively with internal and external customers.
KNOWLEDGE/UNDERSTANDING TO BE ACQUIRED
Methods of project delivery include Design-Build, Construction Manager at Risk, General Contractor, and Subcontractor structures.
Construction contracts include Cost Plus, Lump Sum, Unit Price, Time and Material, and Guaranteed Maximum Price.
Scheduling techniques and programs as well as construction accounting/cost methods and reporting.
Understanding critical contract issues: indemnity, warranty, guaranty, performance guarantees, and liquidated damages.
Understanding the elements of change orders and claim document preparation.
Ability to negotiate and mediate professional program services and contracts.
Familiarity with industry-standard contract types: AIA, AGG, and ConsensusDocs.
