RECREATION PROGRAMMER II (35 hours) - Youth Leader/Naturalist/Environmental Education

The City of Portland Recreation Division is offering an exciting opportunity to engage with the community through the Portland Youth Corps Program and other various outdoor recreational activities. This position is primarily responsible for planning and implementing the Portland Youth Corps Program, implementing outdoor naturalist programs for Portland Recreation’s Before and After School program, and leading all-ages in nature programs in Portland’s Parks and Open Spaces. Leadership of the Portland Youth Corps involves recruiting, selecting and leading crews of local teenagers to conduct service projects in Portland’s parks while implementing outdoor education, career training, and leadership training. If you are a creative individual with strong leadership skills, and who has knowledge and interest in the environment and natural world of Maine and specifically Portland, this may be the opportunity you’ve been looking for. Experience with highlighting historical, ecological and scientific features of Portland’s outdoor surroundings by planning and conducting nature walks and activities for children, adults, families and senior adults is needed for this position. Must have excellent customer service skills and enjoy working with children, teens and adults. Being multilingual and having experience working with children is strongly preferred. First aid and CPR certification is also preferred. This position includes working weekends and evenings, working both indoors and outdoors and driving a 15-passenger activity bus. Successful candidates must possess a valid Class C driver’s license and have a clean driving record. Offers of employment are contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory criminal background check.
Pay range starting at $18.51/hour.
