Spectrum Healthcare Partners is Maine’s largest multi-specialty, physician-owned and directed professional organization and comprises over 200 physicians practicing in the areas of anesthesiology, orthopedics, pain management, pathology, radiation oncology, radiology, and vascular & interventional services. Spectrum provides services at many of Maine’s hospitals throughout the state and in eastern New Hampshire.Hours: M-F (2-3 days per week). 8:00 am – 4:30 pm POSITION SUMMARY Responsible for performing a variety of duties in both the clinical and administrative areas, focusing on delivering quality patient care. Includes assisting physicians with patient care and handling clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks. The medical assistant functions under the provider’s license and demonstrates competency in all skills related to the performance of patient care within their scope of practice and according to organizational policies, accrediting, and licensing bodies. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
+ Accompanies patient to the exam room and prepares patient for a physician by performing intake duties, as assigned.
+ Assists physician with the health/physical assessment process.
+ Assists in the documentation and education of the patient in their plan of care.
+ Accurately documents patient care services by charting in the patient record. Documents therapeutic procedures, dressing changes, wound management, allergies, and medication dosages.
+ Assists with patient testing procedures per directing physician.
+ Collaborates with the surgical scheduler to coordinate pre-operative diagnostic tests, medical consults, etc.; gathering information to ensure pre-operative emergency room patient facilitating questions regarding wound care, pain management, and follow-up appointments.
+ Acts as a liaison between physician and post-operative emergency room patient, facilitating questions regarding wound care, pain management, and follow-up appointments.
+ Provides patient counseling and education as directed by the supervising physician.
+ Clean exam rooms and instruments; restock with necessary supplies.
+ Responds to incoming patient calls in a timely and appropriate manner.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
+ Inventories, stores all necessary medical supplies, drugs, and education materials.
+ Manages scheduling for the physician practice as the office dictates.
+ Works with the healthcare team providing information and education.
+ Communicates effectively with patients, families, providers, staff, and others.
+ Provides coverage in other areas/locations when needed.
+ Attends meetings as assigned and participates in educational activities to keep skills up-to-date.
+ Demonstrates professionalism at all times.
+ Keeps abreast of current issues involving patient care or practice issues by attending and participating in department, team, and practice meetings.
+ Displays cooperative behavior and interacts positively and effectively with others to promote a team environment.
+ Proactive in identifying, reporting, and participating in resolving any potential or actual patient safety issues.
+ Performs other duties necessary to maintain the overall efficiency and continuity of the clinic.QUALIFICATIONS
+ Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program; completion of 160 hours clinical experience acquired through a MA externship preferred; Or equivalent criteria minimum of 1-2 years MA clinical experience in a physician medical practice required.
+ CMA or RMA credentialing is beneficial.
+ Current BLS required.
+ Knowledge of healthcare field, medical office protocols/procedures.
+ Skill in performing medical assistant tasks appropriately.
+ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are necessary for interacting with patients, physicians, supervisors, and other staff.
+ Skill in time management, prioritizing, and medical care coordination.
+ Ability to organize and accomplish tasks and have the flexibility to meet changing demands daily.
+ Ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others.

+ Daily use of computer operating instruments; stationary PC, Laptop PC, keyboard, and mouse.

+ Operation of various office equipment: fax machine, telephone & voice mail system, stationary/laptop computer, e-mail system, scanner, and copier.
+ Lifting to 20 pounds occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently.

+ May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
