And if it’s outside, we’re all in. L.L.Bean is currently seeking an Associate Designer, Apparel and Accessories, to join our Product Creation team in Freeport, ME. Active and outdoor lifestyle design experience preferred. ***Relocation to Maine is required within 2 months from date of hire.

The Associate Designer participates in the work of the Design area at L.L.Bean, focusing on a particular category and may manage a subset of a demand center. Design is responsible for the product aesthetic for all product categories (Core & Signature). Key accountabilities include: 1) Creating product aesthetic inclusive of color, pattern, and silhouette. 2) Partnering with Product Developers and Corporate Merchants in conducting market research to evaluate competitive set, identify seasonal trends, and decide on seasonal concept direction. 3) Collaborating with Product Development to select fabric color and trims & relate them to the product design, function, and silhouette. 4) Creating seasonal corporate color palettes and ensuring on-brand, commercial color direction and color compositions. 5) Creating and designing silhouette, silhouette direction and garment styling; collaborating with Corporate Merchants to recommend fit block to TD. 6) Creating and deciding on brand appropriate / viable surface pattern and print direction. Responsibilities:

Strategy (Product Aesthetic, Seasonal Concept Direction)

+ Assists design team with the construction of seasonal color palettes. – Assists in building presentation and concept boards.

+ Contributes to seasonal trend direction / seasonal trend presentation and seasonal trend deck and vendor deck.

Market Research Aesthetic Inspiration and Trend

+ Conducts market research primarily via web and visiting local boutiques, mall, and vintage stores.

Core Work

+ Tools and Systems Management: FLEX PLM and BOM (Bill of Materials) responsibilities with focus on design deadlines relating to seasonal M2M (Mind to Market) calendar.

+ Creates and updates visual line plan.

+ Maintains trim and fabric libraries; Pantone books; ordering swatches.

+ Assists designers in selecting surface pattern.

+ Works with our Graphics team and colors up print/pattern/graphics

+ Sends prints and selected surface pattern to mills to develop.

+ Sends out color cards and approve lab dips, strike offs, etc.

+ Creates product sketches for category

+ Translates hand sketches into illustrator flat sketches

+ May create and update an accurate pre-production BOM and CC in FLEX PLM.

+ Attends fit sessions for training purposes.

General Meetings/M2M Meetings Responsibility

+ Builds digital color boards, constructs, and updates color palette boards.

+ Assists in the rigging and preparation of rooms for Seasonal Trend, Concept, Adopt and Line Review Meetings.

+ Attends M2M meetings as a learner.

Skills and Qualifications: 4 Year college degree required 1+ years of relevant experience required Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Creative Cloud expertise Exposure/experience with CLO 3D preferred Experience with active apparel is a plus Facilitation and Communication
