Job Description


The Lab Informatics team is seeking a motivated entry level Application Administrator to join our team in supporting Scientific Services and Researchers with their software platforms. Reporting to the Lab Informatics Manager, the Application Administrator will be responsible for installation, maintenance, and support of Lab Informatics software platforms. The Application Administrator also ensures application provisioning and maintenance are consistent with company goals, required service level agreements, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements. The Application Administrator utilizes tools and best practices in support and expansion of platforms, including programming and scripting as required, while understanding business process flows within the applications and will configure and maintain such flows.


The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding and hands-on experience in Laboratory Information Systems, Scientific Data Management, and working collaboratively with Research and Information Technology staff.



Application Operations Management

Provide application specific setup, configuration, and operational documentation

Collaborate with System Administration to ensure application level backups are performed as required by the SLA. Ensure application recovery is documented and tested.

Establish and maintain application security in compliance with applicable laws and regulations as identified by the IT Security Office.

Monitor application performance and address any performance issues with the goal of minimizing application downtime.

Recommend, schedule, and perform application patches and upgrades.

Anticipate, mitigate, identify, respond to, and resolve problems affecting application performance, efficiency, and availability.

Provide reports on application performance and availability.

Keeps current with the latest technology; regularly attends technical training in order to maintain technical expertise.


Application Support

Provide second tier end user support when escalated by the Service Desk.

Effectively communicate changes and updates to users.

Extend the application as required through programming and scripting new functions.

Attend and document requirements and business flow sessions.

Participate in solution proposal development sessions and document as requested.

Provide training and documentation to the service desk for tier 1 support.

Troubleshoot and resolve application related incidents and problems, when applicable; coordinate with Systems Administration regarding problem resolution.

May create user documentation and train personnel on applications.


Acquisition & Deployment

Collaborate with IT and Business teams during the application selection process.

Collaborate with Systems Administration on server sizing and configuration.

Participate in "Proof of concept" and pre-acquisition testing.

Install and configure the application (For vendor installed software; work closely with the vendor to ensure the application is installed properly per the contract.)


Operations & Planning

Assist in the development of operating standards, policies, and procedures.

In collaboration with the application business owner, define the service level agreements.



Bachelor's degree in the field of computer science, information technology or management of information systems (MIS) with a minimum of one (1) year of experience.

Effective written, oral, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.

Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.

Analytical and problems-solving abilities.

Ability to conduct research into software issues and products as required.

Proven exceptional customer experience skills.

Self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.
