The Jackson Laboratory's Information Technology department is seeking a Business Intelligence Data Warehouse Developer/Analyst. The Business Intelligence Data Warehouse Developer/Analyst:
Defines, analyzes, designs, develops, tests, and maintains new software applications in support of the achievement of business requirements.
Elicits, documents, and modifies software requirements and specifications throughout the software system life cycle.
Is responsible for analyzing and amending software errors in a timely and accurate fashion and for providing status reports where required.
Performs data warehouse design, including determining client requirements; designing dimensional star schemas; designing OLAP cubes; analyzing data from operational systems; designing and documenting ETL (extract, transfer, load) requirements; designing and documenting OLAP load routines; working with programmers to build ETL programs; and testing data loads for accuracy, completeness, and usefulness.
Provides data warehouse user analysis and support and designs, creates, and manages the end user reporting layer; creates user metadata documentation; markets data warehouse resources to the client community; assist clients in creating reports in the data warehouse and OLAP environments; and provides guidance to clients as needed.
Works as a database designer for transaction systems, understands the design concepts applied to normalized transaction databases and the data modeling techniques, and leads client groups in data design and determining functional requirements.
Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions:
Independently or with other analysts and developers, conceptualize and develop new business intelligence solutions according to specifications. Recommend and perform software improvements and upgrades.
Assist in requirements, business process definition and design sessions with decision makers, systems owners and end users in defining new systems for the purpose of enhancing business processes, operations, and information process flow.
Create system design proposals and systems models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction to developers and quality assurance staff.
Perform unit testing of software developed prior to release to software quality assurance.
Develop and maintain user manuals and guidelines. Train end users to operate new or modified programs.
Bachelor's degree in the field of computer science, information systems, or software engineering with a minimum of five years of work experience OR a Master's Degree with a minimum of 3 years of equivalent work experience. Other means of acquiring this knowledge may be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Extensive experience developing business intelligence solutions.
Proven experience eliciting and documenting business and technical requirements, process models/maps, and data models; utilizing industry standard methodologies and tools.
Proficiency in at least one enterprise class business intelligence platform.
Experience with relational database management systems, including Microsoft SQL Server
Ability to work and provide deliverables within an established software development life cycle or application life cycle.
Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with non-technical staff and with members of interdisciplinary teams.
Highly self-motivated and directed with the ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities with keen attention to detail. Proven experience in software troubleshooting in a timely manner.
Ability to adapt methods to solve problems.
Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws
Demonstrated ability to lead others effectively.
Technical authority in area of specialty on assigned projects.
