Position Summary: The Food Service Worker II completes, prepares and serves food using preplanned menus and recipes as directed and supervised by the Food Service Supervisor, Dietary Technician, or Cook.
Job Related Responsibilities and Activities
+ Prepares high quality cold foods, nourishments, salads, desserts, and specialty items that are palatable and appetizing in appearance, as assigned using planned menus and standardized recipes or under direct supervision.
+ Sets up dining room as assigned.
+ Serves food in dining areas, working all stations as assigned, assuring accurate diet and portions on each resident’s tray.
+ Assists in checking diet trays before distribution assuring the correct diet is served to the residents.
+ Makes food substitutions only as directed and authorized by Supervisor or Dietary Technician.
+ Promptly and appropriately responds to resident and family requests and needs.
+ Maintains confidentiality of Home information.
+ Ensures that all dietary procedures are followed according to MVH policy and state, federal and VA regulations.
+ Loads food carts, transports food carts to units and program areas, and returns carts to dietary department.
+ Washes dishes using proper sanitation/infection control techniques, and stores in proper place.
+ Disposes of food and waste according to policy and procedure.
+ Uses safe food handling practices at all times in compliance with Maine Veterans’ Homes procedures and regulations.
+ Cleans work area and equipment according to cleaning schedule and as assigned using proper sanitation/ infection control techniques. Takes out trash and boxes to dumpster.
+ Labels all food items stored according to regulation and policy and procedure.
+ Assists in preparing and serving high quality, palatable and appetizing in appearance food at special events, parties, meetings and so on. Cleans up after events
+ Checks temperatures on food line and dish line to insure proper temperatures are maintained and records temperatures on appropriate forms.
+ Assists with putting away food/supply deliveries as directed.
+ Stocks and cleans unit kitchens according to inventory checklist and as requested.
+ Completes required paperwork accurately, legibly and in a timely manner.
+ Performs duties in a manner that assures maximum safety to self and others.
+ Utilizes appropriate chemicals/powders to minimize fumes and contacts and eliminate food/food surfaces contamination.
+ Initiates correction of hazards as appropriate and/or notifies supervisor of hazards in a timely manner.
+ Attends and participates in educational sessions and staff meetings as assigned.
+ Participates in Performance Improvement activities as needed and directed.
+ Performs other reasonably related duties as assigned.
Education/Training/Experience: Prior food services experience required. Prior experience in institutional food preparation helpful.
