Job Description

Summary

 

As Manager, IT Data Services and Intelligence at The Jackson Laboratory, you will be part of an organization whose IT technologies are as exciting and progressive as our science. We are currently looking for motivated individuals who will work with all areas of The Jackson Laboratory, and other IT staff to plan, design and launch efficient platform solutions and systems.

 

A successful candidate will have expertise in legacy as well as emerging data and reporting technologies, experience managing a team of IT professionals across multiple disciplines, and experience working with data from disparate systems and enterprise platforms such as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) or Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) applications.

 

The Manager's role is to own the strategy and manage the team developing and operating IT data services, legacy data warehouse solutions, and operational reporting solutions, as well as leading the modernization of business intelligence and analytics capabilities in support of the strategic goals of The Jackson Laboratory in becoming a data-driven organization.

 

Responsibilities

 

Provides clear direction to and manages an organization of professionals to ensure achievement of strategic and operational objectives.

Takes a leading role in project evaluation and assessment ensuring the identification of high ROI targets, high business value projects as well as the completion of the projects on time and within budget.

Keeps abreast of latest developments in business intelligence and data services and contributes to definition of technology roadmap.

Drives the service and financial impact analysis of the proposed solutions in coordination with the service management functions.

Prepares business cases for new solutions and presents, defends, and leads to approval the technology solutions.

Ensures resolution of the support/problems to ensure SLA objectives are achieved in coordination with the support team and guaranteeing the achievement of the Operating Framework.

Aligns and prioritizes the capabilities in the team around root cause investigation, making proposals and fixes and ensuring necessary work is carried out and delivered.

Establishes the connections with and supports the incident, capacity, availability, release, and change management processes and with any other process in the area of responsibility when so required.

Establishes and maintains regular written and in-person communications with the organization's executives, department heads, and end users regarding pertinent IT activities.

Evangelizes, communicates, markets, and supports the introduction of the services developed in the area of responsibility.

 

Qualifications

 

Bachelor's degree in information technology or related technical or business field

10+ years of IT experience with data services and intelligence solutions

5+ demonstrated success in management or leadership role with increasing responsibility within an IT function

5+ years leading agile teams, maturing agile capabilities, and developing agile team skill sets for software development and maintenance

Experience with systems design and development from business requirements analysis through to day-to-day management.

Knowledge of business theory, business processes, management, budgeting, and business office operations

Demonstrated ability to apply IT in solving business problems.

In-depth knowledge of applicable laws and regulations as they relate to IT. (PCI, CLIA, HIPAA, GxP)

 

Other Skills:

Proven, extensive experience delivering data-driven solutions of increasing complexity from the departmental level to enterprise wide.

Proven experience leading a team of professionals of varying skill levels, including experience mentoring junior team members and fostering a learning environment.

Strong interpersonal, organizational and facilitation skills to work in a high-profile environment requiring discretion, judgment, tact, and diplomacy.

Demonstrated project management and leadership skills in overseeing the design, development, and implementation of software and hardware solutions, systems, or products in an agile methodology.

Knowledge of and experience with Microsoft data technologies including SQL Server and Power BI.

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Superior written and oral communication skills with a proven ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language.

Highly self-motivated, self-directed, and attentive to detail.
