The Director of the Office of School and Student Supports (OSSS) will serve as the leader of student and family support resources within DOE including McKinney Vento, health & physical education, migrant education, truancy/drop out, mental health, social emotional learning, family engagement, and cultural responsiveness, as well as any programs and roles which focus on the social, emotional and health of Maine learners.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
+ Must be independent and self-directed but able to work and lead a team
+ Superior research and analytical skills to track and predict trends
+ Must be able to work creatively within a budget and use innovation to find ways of more effectively managing resources
+ Strong knowledge of education laws, practices, and procedures
+ Must be able to collaborate with all types of education stakeholders
+ Must have excellent interpersonal skills to maintain effective working relationships
+ Knowledge of state and federal education laws, rules, and regulations
+ Knowledge of, and technical expertise in, the laws, policies, and workings of a broad spectrum of public agencies in general
+ Knowledge and understanding of the principles of educational reform adopted by the department
+ Ability to develop and implement policies to enhance department services.
+ Strong customer service, conflict management and de-escalation skills are required.
Bachelor’s Degree in education or related field, Masters Preferred and 5 years school experience in professional role and 5 years supervisory experience.
