Parks, Recreation & Facilities Department – This full time 40 hour position performs a variety of skilled, certified and lead maintenance and repair work on City-owned playgrounds, play spaces and surrounding areas on City and School property and conducts daily, monthly and annual certified inspections of City owned playgrounds and play spaces based on national playground standards set forth by ASTM and the National Recreation and Park Association; Thorough knowledge of the functions and operating methods of a wide variety of heavy and complex construction equipment used on various jobs such as excavating, loading, working to grade, rolling and related work and the ability to operate this equipment safely; extensive knowledge of park, playground, play space, and athletic facility maintenance, turf care and landscaping; irrigation and water play space systems and controls and building maintenance and ability to perform arithmetic calculations and geometric layouts and the ability to read and understand blueprints. This position also participates in winter operations efforts such as plowing, removing snow from sidewalks/plazas and fields, salting and sanding, and the winter maintenance of recreational facilities; utilizes State of Maine Pesticide license in practice of the City’s integrated Pest Management program and may assist in the maintenance of City owned water systems, field irrigation systems, drinking and ornamental fountains and play themed water systems. Training and Experience Desired: Work experience in turf maintenance, horticulture, or athletic facilities maintenance; completion of OSHA approved confined space training and work zone safety certification courses and prior training and/or experience in playground inspection or repair, fencing installation or repair and possession of an Arborist license. Necessary Special Requirements: Ability to obtain Certified Playground Inspection Certificate within the probationary period and/or within (6) months of appointment to the position. Must possess State of Maine Pesticide License with Right of Way and Turf endorsements. Must possess a valid State of Maine Class B Motor Vehicle Operator’s license or have the ability to obtain within the probationary period and/or within (6) months of appointment to the position. Offers of employment are contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory criminal background check. Pay range starting at $840.00/week.
