Job Description

Job Summary:

Install, repair and maintain overhead fiber optic lines and auxiliary equipment. Lineman can be expected to be responsible for organizing, supervising and assigning daily tasks as necessary.

Duties and Responsibilities:

+ Assigning job tasks to assist with completing the days’ work

+ Install fiber optic cable, strand and associated hardware required

+ Ability to regularly work above ground on poles using safety equipment in either the bucket or using safety belts

+ Inspect poles, lines and equipment for any sign of damage or wear

+ Report deficiencies to manager

+ Ability to safely operate bucket truck and climb poles

+ Maintain appropriate log book for installed fiber and work orders

+ Assisting in pole placement, digging holes or other tasks involved in setting poles

+ Responsible for maintaining and acquiring all necessary material and/or equipment for each day’s assignments

+ Must be able to work outside in various weather conditions

+ Ability to lift, push or pull large hand tool equipment

+ Establish a safe work area and designate traffic control patterns

Essential Skills:

+ Writing & reading text

+ Assist with cleaning storage yard area

+ Stock trucks with material commonly used on a daily basis

+ Assist with washing and maintain equipment in proper working order

+ Assist with cleaning protective equipment

+ Assist with loading of various materials onto trucks and/or trailers

Supervisory Responsibilities:

+ Directly supervise laborers and ground hands

+ Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Todd Cable’s policies and applicable laws

+ Assisting in on the job training of new employees

+ Responsible for planning, assigning and directing work each day

+ Appraising performance, rewarding and also disciplining employees as needed

Work Environment:

+ Exposure to various outdoor weather conditions

+ Work near moving mechanical parts

+ Exposure to fumes or airborne particles

+ Risk of electrical shock and vibration

Education/Experience:

+ High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

Specialized Training:

+ OSHA 10-hour construction safety training

+ Driver/Operator training

+ Task specific training

+ Class A or B License with air brake endorsement

+ Clean and valid driver’s license
