The Town of Gorham is currently accepting applications from qualified candidates for its full time (40 hours) Driver Operator position in the Public Works Department.
The Driver Operator holds a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and is responsible for the safe, skilled and efficient operation of a variety of light and heavy equipment associated with snow removal, repair, maintenance and construction of Town of Gorham roads, sidewalks, parks, and cemeteries. In addition to operating equipment, the Driver Operator performs general laborer functions such as patching roads, raking hot top, mowing grass, shoveling, cutting brush and directing traffic. Work is performed year round in a variety of weather conditions under the general direction of the Road Foreman.

Driver Operators typically average approximately 150 hours of overtime annually. Pay range for this position starts at $19.64 per hour. Experience and qualifications may be taken into consideration when determining starting wage. The successful candidate selected will be eligible for a $1,000 sign on bonus.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: A High School Diploma is required. A valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and the ability to pass pre-employment and random drug and alcohol tests are required. Prior experience in the operation of standard automotive equipment heavier than passenger vehicles required. Prior experience operating heavy equipment, such as tractors, loaders and backhoes preferred. Any equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.
Driver Operators must have the ability to work extended and on-call hours as needed, including nights, weekends and holidays, such as during and after winter storm events.
