Dorothea Dix Psychiatric Center (“DDPC”) is a 69-bed psychiatric hospital serving the entire State of Maine that provides services for people with severe mental illness. As a member of a statewide community of care givers, DDPC collaborates with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness, their community and personal supports, to provide recovery-oriented, respectful, compassionate, and effective psychiatric care and treatment in the least restrictive, safest, and most therapeutic environment we can create.

Job duties:

REPRESENTATIVE TASKS:(A position may not be assigned all the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include all the duties that may be assigned).

Cooks soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, and breakfast food in order to prepare resident meals.

Measures, washes, peels, cuts and shreds vegetables and cuts and trims meat in order to prepare food for cooking.

Washes, cleans, and maintains utensils, equipment, and kitchen in order to maintain established sanitary and cleanliness standards.

Prepares and serves special diet menus in order to provide residents with prescribed diet.

KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:(These are required to successfully perform the work assigned).

Knowledge of materials, methods, utensils, and equipment used in food preparation.

Knowledge of kitchen safety and sanitation requirements.

Knowledge of food values and nutrition.

Ability to follow oral and written directions.

Ability to cook, bake, and serve meals.

Ability to clean and maintain kitchen area, utensils, and equipment.

Ability to stand for long periods in a high temperature environment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Cook I One (1) year experience in large-scale institutional food preparation including serving and cleanup.
