Job Description

The Laboratory Technologist I works in the Transgenic Genotyping Service with limited oversight performing laboratory procedures, operating sophisticated equipment, performing data analysis, and generating data reports. They understand Mendelian genetics and are responsible for critically reviewing data, troubleshooting assays, and managing their work queue. They must also perform shared laboratory tasks including sample processing and DNA extraction independently on an assigned rotation.

Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions
Plan and manage work queue daily. Utilize the lab database and work companion tool to schedule work, gather and prepare reagents, controls, and samples, and log progress, issues, and troubleshooting.
Execute molecular biology assays with limited oversight in an efficient and timely manner with highly reproducible results.
Analyze and score genotyping data. Utilize laboratory software unique to the assigned platform. Process raw data files into genotyping reports, upload reports to the lab database and provide genotyping calls for submitted samples. Critically review results for quality and accuracy.
Receives, verifies, processes, and performs DNA extraction on tissue sample submissions on a rotating basis
Performs ancillary laboratory duties on a rotating basis

The wage range is $21.60 - $28.19 per hour. Pay will be determined based upon qualifications and experience.

Bachelor's degree in the life sciences or a related discipline
Understanding of Mendelian genetics
1 or more years of wet lab experience preferred
Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with others
Advanced computer skills including Excel, Outlook, and database experience
Demonstrated ability to be a positive team player in a fast-paced working environment
Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to set priorities.
Written and oral communication skills sufficient to permit clear and effective exchange of information with people representing a wide diversity of disciplines and levels of sophistication.
