SMX is seeking a Project Accounting and Revenue Compliance SME to report directly to the Director of Projects & Revenue Accounting. This role is 100% remote.

As a SME of Project Accounting and Revenue Compliance, you will be responsible for the project lifecycle in Deltek Costpoint and revenue recognition. This role will be a key support to the accounting team to ensure the project setup is timely, captured in accordance with contract specifications, and aligned with company policies.


+ Responsible for tracking and reporting of project costs, profitability, and proper revenue recognition on projects

+ Work collaboratively with the Business Unit Finance Leads, Program Managers, Contracts, and the accounting team to ensure project setup configurations meet the billing, revenue recognition and reporting requirements and aligned with the Company’s policy

+ Coordinate project kick-off calls with Finance, Contracts Administrator and the Program Manager(s) and accounting team to ensure alignment with the project structure

+ Serve as a liaison between the stakeholders to address questions, investigate project variances and resolve any issues that may arise

+ Research any unbilled issues to optimize the billing possibilities for the billing period

+ Support the staff with peer reviewing setup requests

+ Manage month and quarter end close to resolve issues, flex analysis and other changes in project costs and profitability.

+ Develop processes for revenue, driving accuracy, data quality, and efficiency across

+ Work across all levels of the organization as the subject matter expert for Revenue Accounting.

+ Assist with the design and operation of revenue accounting controls and identify areas of opportunity to transform the revenue processes with continuous focus on process improvements

+ Assess contracts under generally accepted accounting principles including ASC 606 and ASC 340

Required Skills and Experience

+ Clearance Required: None. US Citizenship required for work on DoD contracts

+ Bachelor’s Degree required

+ Preference will be given to candidates with a BS in Accounting, but Finance and other Business Administration degrees will be considered

+ 6+ years of experience in project accounting and revenue recognition

+ Ability to troubleshoot complex Costpoint issues

+ Familiarity with Cognos

+ Current experience in revenue recognition methodologies across all contract types; CPFF, CPAF, T&M, FFP, Commercial, et al.

+ Strong knowledge of GAAP, FAR and compliance within highly-regulated environments

+ Experience working with DCAA and DCMA including audit support

+ Expert knowledge of ASC 606

+ Expert Excel skills

+ A strong attention to detail with a focus on analytics

+ Prior experience working in fast-paced accounting organization, preferably in a PE setting
