Job Description:

Key Responsibilities:

Policy and Procedure Development:

+ Develop and implement policies, procedures, and protocols for specimen collection and processing, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Quality Assurance:

+ Oversee specimen collection quality and processing accuracy using hospital computer systems.

+ Ensure adherence to quality control measures and perform equipment maintenance to maintain accuracy and efficiency.

Scheduling Lab Assistant Staff:

+ Coordinate scheduling for lab assistant staff across 4 lab facilities, ensuring coverage for 24/7 operations.

+ Manage staffing levels to meet workload demands and maintain efficient workflow.

Staff Supervision and Development:

+ Determine staffing assignments and provide direction, orientation, training, coaching, and mentoring to laboratory staff.

+ Conduct performance evaluations and implement disciplinary actions as needed to ensure accountability and performance excellence.

+ Remove barriers, motivate staff, and champion change to foster a positive and productive work environment.

Staff Compliance:

+ Ensure staff compliance with departmental and organizational policies, procedures, and protocols.

+ Facilitate staff development programs to enhance skills and knowledge, promoting continuous improvement and professional growth.

Service Delivery:

+ Perform laboratory responsibilities as needed to support service delivery, ensuring timely and accurate specimen processing and analysis.

+ Lead resolution of complex issues and complaints, serving as a consultant to laboratory staff and healthcare team members to address challenges and optimize patient care.


+ Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), or Phlebotomy Technician – PBT (ASCP) preferred within 6 months of hire.

+ 3-5 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting, with leadership experience preferred.

+ Experience in phlebotomy required; ability to train and coach phlebotomy skills.

+ Strong knowledge of laboratory procedures, protocols, and quality assurance practices.

+ Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

+ Ability to effectively train, mentor, and motivate staff.

+ Proficiency with laboratory information systems and computer applications.
