Job Description

The Cornerstone team is seeking an industry analyst, researcher, media influencer and author supporting Cornerstone’s Thought Leadership strategy and operations. Our Office of the Chief Learning Officer (CLO) is expanding its efforts in assessing industry trends specific (though not limited) to Learning and Talent technologies. This includes approaches to the future of work, research from industry and academic sources, as well as deploying related surveys and reports helping Cornerstone shape the Trust and Value expected by our customers, prospects and industry. This role will report directly to the Chief Learning Officer and be a key leader within the Office of the CLO.

This role will be a key collaborator across Cornerstone to identify and unite related Thought Leadership practices and approaches. This specifically includes close partnership with Global Marketing, Product Management and Sales. The Director will also be an advisor and conduit to our customers and partnership ecosystem (customers and prospects) to harvest and align reality-based best practices with Cornerstone’s products and solution offerings. You will also be recognized as an influencer with C-suite executives, decision makers and industry analysts.

You will be a recognized representative of Cornerstone’s leadership position and increase our progressive stance or Voice on issues facing the success of our customers and industry. This role must have strong communication skills. This includes various written assets, public speaking, and social media savvy.

Given the diversity of Thought Leadership programs, teammates and branding efforts within Cornerstone, you will also shape a new internal and external ecosystem of Evangelists supporting our Purpose to empower people to be their most extraordinary .

In this role you will…

General Research:

+ Investigate trends, activities and insights that align to Cornerstone product value and needs of our customers

+ Align research where applicable to targeted hypothesis ideally validating research goals

+ Build an ecosystem or reliable resources and relationships to scale insight gathering methods (ie analysts, professionals, key customers, research publications, online communities)


+ Conduct focus groups, surveys and additional insight gathering approaches

+ Identify and reach knowledgeable and respected individuals and groups expert in our Cornerstone product strategies and business goals; these contacts should be demonstrated expertise via their work, publications, speaking engagements and more

+ Research and prepare for interviews for both qualitative and quantitative insights from experts, influencers etc.

+ Deploy a Cornerstone Advisory Group of industry influencers and experts that meets frequently to vet, advise and provide perspectives enabling out Thought Leadership strategy and offerings

+ Always seek mutual benefit with key individuals and agencies

Analyze & Interpret:

+ Analyze research findings, trends and actionable insights aligning with hypothesis or goals

+ Seek meaningful correlations, patterns that may be explicit or not so visible, or implied

+ For more detailed, technical or academic publications, you will extract or interpret findings for more broader understanding

+ Manage a repository or organized collection of findings, contacts, resources also available across Cornerstone

Authoring and Media Operations:

+ Via individual assignment or cross-functional projects, create various Thought Leadership assets including but not limited to:

o Blogs

o Reports

o Articles for publication

o Videos

o Podcasts

o Webinar sessions

+ Track metrics and uptake for key assets regarding consumption, access and usage

Metrics and business alignment:

+ Assist with related Thought Leadership adoption, consumption and utilization metrics of assets and related projects. Metrics may align with:

+ Alignment: Downloads, usage, media reactions or opinions, reuse of content or materials…

+ Engagement: Conversion rates, SEO rankings, social shares, press coverage…

+ Influence and impact: Qualified leads, perception of expertise, customer value, lead-to-sales conversions

+ Partner with Marketing for reporting, dashboards

+ Benchmark against industry standards

+ Ensure Thought Leadership strategy, plans and metrics and aligned with Cornerstone business and product direction and related metrics; efforts include…

+ Qualified conversions enabling Sales and Lead Management

+ Aligned to campaign goals

+ Aligning to Sales and Marketing (and partner) KPIs

Communication and Relationship Management:

+ Serve as a representative of the Office of the CLO to be communicate project work and progress, upcoming events/work etc.

+ Provide summaries of progress, accomplishments, cross-functional recognition with specific focus on leadership awareness

+ Manage a cadence of cross-functional meetings to insure awareness, responsibilities, clarity of expectations; reduces overlaps and redundancies of effort and budgets

+ Similarly, manage interactions with external entities (analysis, customers…) so they are aware of works in progress, dependencies, promotions

+ Ensure the Cornerstone Sales team is aware ad equipped to leverage Thought Leadership assets to influence prospects, help retention, provide rep confidence etc.

You have what it takes if you have…

+ 8+ years’ experience working in a global L&D function ideally in learning technologies

+ 4+ years of proficiency and experience in formal industry research, analysis and validation, aligning Marketing (or Thought Leadership/Evangelism) plans with business priorities and goals

+ Solid proficiency in multi-media asset authoring, e.g. print, digital, live and recorded events

+ Strong consultative mindset with an ability to influence internally and well as external contacts, customers, analysts

+ Work experience in virtual/remote teams preferred

+ Substantial and results driven project and process management

+ Highly organized, structured and efficient working style; ability to manage a high workload with conflicting priorities in a challenging environment

+ Strong leadership and management skills at all levels of the organization from executives to functional teammates-again in a diverse, global setting

+ Analytical and data-centric

+ Strong negotiation, ongoing chaos management and prioritization skills

+ Excellent interpersonal, influence and communication skills

Extra dose of awesomeness if you have…

+ Experience in the impact of Dark Social consumer behaviors and content posted or shared through dark social media or channels like texts, emails, or private messages where attribution is challenging.

+ Keen and current awareness of trends and best practices in learning and Talent technologies

+ Keen fascination in how the L&D and HR industry is evolving, progressing, maturing and how Cornerstone aligns and exceeds market needs and anticipation

+ High degree of proficiency with social media tools, networking, methods ensuring highest adoption of published assets; similar proficiencies with Microsoft Office tools (Word, PowerPoint, Excel…)

+ Similar proficiency in multimedia production tools from modeling, design, creation, video effects and post-production

+ “Big 5” consultancy experience

+ Being a prior or current Cornerstone customer or partner
