Assistant Professor of Biology (Tenure Track) – Augusta Campus – SEARCH EXTENDED Department: Natural Lab Science – ASCIE Bargaining Unit: AFUM Salary Band/Wage Band: A typical salary for this tenure track, academic year appointment is in the mid-50s and is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Location: Augusta ME Statement of Job: The University of Maine at Augusta is seeking qualified applicants for an academic-year, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Biology based on our Augusta Campus. We seek candidates whose teaching, scholarship, and mentorship support our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. This appointment will begin fall semester 2024. The successful candidate will be committed to excellence in teaching and to developing innovative curricula, labs, and research experiences for students. This full-time, twelve-credit hour teaching load will include online and campus-based courses in support of the Bachelor of Arts in Biology degree, Allied Health programs, and the core curriculum. Teaching assignments will include lecture and laboratory sections of general biology, required science courses in Biology, Nursing, and Medical Laboratory Technology programs, as well as courses specific to Biology Majors. The successful candidate may also develop and teach courses in their area of expertise and laboratory courses for non-majors. Courses are taught using a variety of modalities including in-person, hybrid offerings, and asynchronous online instruction. The duties of this position may also include supporting the university’s Early College program. UMA faculty are expected to be excellent teachers, responsive to changing professional needs, committed to innovative delivery of instruction resulting in improved student learning, committed to effective use of technology including distance learning, involved in scholarly activities as appropriate to the appointment, and to provide service to the community, College, and University. Qualifications: Required Qualifications: The successful applicant will be broadly trained in biology, possess a Ph.D. in biology or a related discipline, and have relevant college-level teaching experience including teaching online. NOTE: Doctoral candidates with a master’s degree in biology or a related field may be considered. Completion of the doctorate is required for the awarding of tenure. Preferred Qualifications: Background in neurobiology, evolutionary developmental biology, or developmental biology. Experience with course or curriculum development, using new technology in teaching, teaching asynchronous online courses, mentoring students’ research projects or internships, discipline-related work experience, being committed to excellence in undergraduate education, and teaching nontraditional students.
