POSITION – Union: Distribution Engineer – Augusta, ME (16467)


LOCATION: CMP-ME-Augusta General Office

* Visa Sponsorship and Relocation are NOT offered for this role


Primary responsibility for all distribution system engineering and technical expertise to Field Operations in the areas of planning, design, operations and maintenance of the distribution system. Provides technical consulting for various company departments and external entities. Performs complex engineering analyses and calculations, including engineering economics, related to a wide variety of distribution system requirements. Acts as consultant for engineering related services to a variety of company departments and external entities.


  • Engineering of distribution system improvement projects which include proposed solutions for problems and planning for future loads.
  • Reviewing distribution work orders for scope and technical issues such as correct size, parts, pieces, wire, transformers, etc. for compliance with applicable standards, codes and engineering practices.
  • Performing engineering analyses for distribution protection recloser settings, in consideration of optimizing fuse size requirements and minimizing recloser operations.
  • Preparing circuit outage and station outage switching and contingency plans.
  • Preparing FAA, Railroad crossing permitting plans, underground development layouts, stamping designs.
  • Performs complex engineering calculations for flicker analysis of large customer motors.


  • Engineer solutions for distribution conductor loading problems, voltage problems, stray voltage issues, telephone noise and harmonic issues.
  • Engineering of alternative construction methods where physical constraints dictate deviation from approved construction standards on a limited basis.
  • Maintain and design construction standards for compliance with respect to regulations, codes and good utility practices.
  • Provide technical assistance and consulting on road job layout.
  • Other ancillary duties related to the core functions of the job as assigned.

Skills and Requirements

Thorough understanding of and ability to apply Construction Standards

Education/Experience :

Graduate of 4 year engineering program


Ability to get PE certification to progress to top of scale
