General Purpose of Job

As the LTD \(Long Term Disability\) Technical Specialist I, you will perform and deliver on routine assignments and projects for the Majors and Specialized Accounts area within Lincoln’s Group Benefits Department\. You will be responsible for the management of assigned claims for our most high profile accounts\. You will review, evaluate, and make claim determinations regarding coverage, compensability, and appropriate outcome of claims\.

Responsibilities

Analyzes and processes LTD claims by obtaining, evaluating, and summarizing information to make claim determinations\.

Reviews obtained information to make LTD claim determinations and ensure appropriate claims outcomes for your assigned claims\.

Conducts interviews with external stakeholders \(e\.g\. physicians, claimants, and/or lawyers\); when additional information cannot be obtained, escalates as needed and identifies appropriate next steps to ensure efficient handling\.

Effectively collaborates with appropriate internal stakeholders to determine claim eligibility and to manage claim through full life\-cycle\.

Reviews and provides assessments to facilitate settlement of claims up to designated authority level\.

Analyzes claimants’ coverage contracts to determine basic payment eligibility is met\.

Evaluates and makes recommendations regarding claim eligibility determinations to management\.

Proactively identifies and resolves issues and/or concerns; clearly articulates claim process & review to address customer questions\.

Provides coaching/feedback to claims teams on effective use of policies/procedures and best practices in claims workflow & management\.

Supports management in the review of team performance, identifies trends and provides feedback to enhance practices/processes to ensure a positive customer experience\.

Partners with management and other resources to contribute to training materials; provides training to claims team members\.

Education

4 Year/Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience \(4 years of experience in lieu of Bachelors\)\_Minimum Required in Business or Finance

Experience

0 \- 1\+ Years of Experience in claims that directly aligns with the specific responsibilities for this position \(Minimum Required\)

3\+ Years of Experience in LTD Claims processing \(Highly Preferred\)

Demonstrates excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload and multi\-task while maintaining strict attention to detail\.

Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills\.

Ability to interpret and apply common sense understanding to carry out a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form\.

Demonstrates the ability to use sound judgment and discretion regarding confidential information\.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite \(Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook\)\.
