Summary

The Change Product Manager is responsible for embedding organizational change management (OCM) practices into major information technology programs to achieve the desired business outcomes and value.

The Change Product Manager is responsible for leading, directing, coordinating and providing visibility into change management efforts in support of enterprise-wide technology programs. The Change Manager applies process improvement, change management methodologies, communication planning, organizational readiness assessment and stakeholder analyses to create change management strategies and develop change work streams that maximize employees’ change readiness and adoption of new technologies and ways of working.

Although the Change Product Manager works closely with program, project, product and service managers and their teams, the Change Manager role is a separate position and has distinct responsibilities. The Change Manager role is focused on the activities required to help individual stakeholders throughout the enterprise understand, adjust to and adopt the new practice, item, process or tool that a team is implementing. The Change Manager is responsible for ensuring all key metrics and timelines are met, working closely and participating in the completion of the required tasks to meet these deadlines. They are responsible for managing multiple groups to timelines and deliverables and being an active participate in the completion of tasks. The incumbent will be responsible for assisting in training documentation and participate in training coordination.

The Change Product Manager is a multifaceted role that interfaces with various stakeholders enterprise-wide:

Stakeholders affected by any identified project-driven change

  • Project, program, product and service delivery managers and staff involved
  • IT leadership team and staff
  • Business and research executive leadership

Responsibilities

Plans and executes change management projects

  • Promotes the business & research vision with a benefit framework that links adoption of change to successful business
  • Employs a structured change management methodology to facilitate change and promote commitment to adapt to the Knows how to tailor this methodology to be culturally appropriate for the enterprise and program.
  • Prepares for change by assessing the magnitude of change and the organization’s change readiness.
  • Identifies pitfalls and potential points of challenge or change Develops counterstrategies to mitigate or minimize potential issues.
  • Conducts thorough methodological investigations to identify key stakeholders impacted by the Determines appropriate timing of that change. Conducts an environment scan to identify potential challenges for stakeholders, such as skills gaps, doubts and uncertainties, to foster a positive acceptance of change. Tailors change management plans (training and orientation) to accommodate the needs of the different stakeholder groups impacted.
  • Creates a communications strategy and plan to ensure all employees are fully aware of impending changes.

Monitors the implementation of change management to ensure the disruption of normal business operations in minimized

  • Works with HR and Employee Communications to create mechanisms to de-emphasize old behaviors and encourage new desired ones. This process may involve redesigning jobs and defining new behavioral competencies and performance metrics.
  • Conducts an impact assessment for stakeholders affected by the change Regularly reviews the stakeholder community to assess potential change fatigue.
  • Identifies and provides leadership for change agents and change advocates within the stakeholder community by involving trusted informal leaders to create employee understanding and influence successful organizational change.
  • Promotes and provides ongoing coaching and mentoring about change management practices to senior leadership, stakeholder managers and project managers to increase their effectiveness in driving sustainable change.
  • Performs quantitative assessment of change success and change Solicits feedback from stakeholders to determine the success of change management activities and ensure that behavioral changes align with strategic objectives.
  • Manages and takes lead in implementation and follow up changes required to ensure productivity post launch
  • Participates in training documentation and assists with training and proficiency.

Educates executives and the organization about OCM

  • Proactively identifies when changes in software applications and systems call for a formal change management initiative
  • Acts as a change agent to implement and manage best practices

Qualifications

  • Postsecondary education in business, technology or related field or
  • 6 years’ experience in a role where leading, directing, coordinating and providing visibility into change management efforts in support of programs was a major function, with preference in experience in enterprise wide technology
  • 3 years of experience in cross-functional areas or leading cross-functional organizational projects
  • Experience with and deep knowledge of change management methodologies, approaches and tools
  • Organizational development training, change management training and/or certification are highly desirable
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills — essential for interacting with key stakeholders across the project, so as to manage, inform and influence successful project outcome
  • Good working knowledge of industry-standard predictive and iterative project management methodologies and project life cycles
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and influence teams. Must be able to manage a diverse, cross functional work group, motivate them, and maximize productivity
  • Ability to support important decisions carrying large financial consequences, often under some pressure and tight time deadlines
