Statement of Job:

The Cutler Institute at the University of Southern Maine is pleased to announce an opening for two Policy Assistants to support grant-funded initiatives. These positions are full-time, soft-money funded, and are subject to continued funding from the grantor.

These positions will primarily support a statewide initiative funded by Maine DHHS. The team works to build the capacity of the child welfare agency and support the state’s child welfare workforce in effectively serving children, youth and families.

The Policy Assistants will bring their expertise to a variety of elements within the projects, focusing primarily on communication, training delivery and meeting logistics, and learning management system support, as well as monthly financial reports and administrative support. The position will also provide support for webinars, podcasts, and other online learning platforms.

We are looking for applicants with a strong customer service mindset as these positions will be providing assistance to a wide variety of team members and external partners. The Policy Assistants should be detail oriented, willing to take initiative, and comfortable learning new computer programs. Some travel may be required.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Customer service experience
  • 60 credits or more of higher education and one year work experience or equivalent work experience/training
  • Strong computer skills, with proficiency using Microsoft Office, Wordpress, Adobe and In-Design
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work well with many people at all levels
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills, including use of English, grammar, punctuation, and spelling
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Report and document preparation

Preferred:

  • Customer service and client management experience, ideally with the general public
  • Experience in a confidential or executive office setting, performing a wide range of tasks under minimal supervision
  • Budget monitoring and management
  • Knowledge of Mainestreet, Marketplace, CONCUR and other University of Maine Systems
