WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Building Inspector based in our Eliot, Maine office, and assigned to a construction field office in Portland, Maine. As part of the Owner’s Team, the Senior Building Inspector will report to the Owner’s Director of Projects, while providing full-time inspection and documentation assistance on a multi-million dollar marine terminal expansion and renovation. The terminal serves various islands in the Casco Bay area, and project funding is being provided from federal, state and client sources. The construction will be procured via the Construction Manager at Risk method, and is expected to start in early 2020, and be complete, in spring 2021. Night and weekend work may performed at times, due to construction phasing.

The Senior Building Inspector will monitor, inspect and document various building addition/renovation and site construction activities, including utilities, demolition, traffic control and paving. The ideal candidate may also be assigned to marine activities include pile driving, demolition, concrete decks, timber fenders, sewall repairs, and micropile installation. As part of a collaborative team, the Senior Building Inspector will also assist the Director of Projects with construction administration, such as contractor pay estimates, potential change orders and other similar activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

+ Perform daily inspection and prepare written reports

+ Coordinate and monitor materials sampling and testing

+ Monitor Buy America requirements, through review and verification of material and equipment documentation

+ Assist with payroll reviews for conformance with the Davis Bacon Act.

+ Verify that contractor has acquired the required building permits, and that they are in compliance with the local, or state inspection requirements

+ Review and recommend contractor pay estimates, as directed

+ Identify potential change orders and assist the Director of Projects in mitigating potential impact

+ Communicate effectively with owner, construction manager and designers

+ Assist the Director of Projects with overall project administration, as instructed

  1. Job Requirements


Minimum Qualifications:

+ Minimum of 7 years of experience, with 5 years vertical building construction experience, including quality assurance, quality control or inspections

+ Familiarity with Maine Uniform Building and Energy Code, or similar

+ Hands-on experience with MS Suite software

+ Excellent interpersonal skills

+ Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

+ Bachelor of Science/Engineering, Construction Management, or Architecture degree. Any combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.

+ ACI Level I Certification
