Provides strategic leadership within the Engineering organization. Leads long range planning activities for engineering areas. Helps to develop and implement the strategic capital plan aligned with the company’s business strategy, equipment upgrades, and process design. Works with R&D to complete process development of new products. Ensures engineering readiness to support production and product transfer activities. Represents engineering during internal and external company business meetings. Works within company Quality Management System.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned to meet business objectives.
Provides strategic engineering leadership: Validation Program, Capital planning and execution, New process and equipment design and development to support new product offerings, Process and equipment design for manufacturing locations, Scrap reduction program when needed
Responsible for driving exceptional engineering response with respect to: Resolution of production equipment issues, Corrective and Preventative Action Items, Leads and/or assists in determination of product/process failure root causes potentially related to manufacturing processes.
Responsible for proactive programs to raise standards in areas of: Total Preventative Maintenance (TPM), Control plans for equipment and facility failures, Emergency response planning, Safety and machine guarding
Accountable for driving introduction of and skill development in: Use of DMAIC and DMADV processes for improvement projects and equipment design, Application of Lean and Six Sigma tools, Implementation of Statistical Process Control monitoring programs, Measurement and improvement in process capability and variation reduction
Responsible for leading, coaching, and performance management of the Engineering Department
Accountable for identifying best practices and industry standards for: Manufacturing Engineering, Equipment Design and Development, and assisting Maintenance Programs
Manages Engineering department staff comprised of engineers and technicians. Provides the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the engineering group. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees, planning, assigning, and managing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Engineering. Prefer a Masters Degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or related fields. And/or equivalent combination of education and experience
Ten or more years experience in Manufacturing Engineering or Design Engineering with at least five years direct experience in providing engineering support to production.
Exposure to Lean, Six Sigma and TPM required. Green or Black belt training or certification is a plus.
Prior experience managing equipment design and development as relates to high speed manufacturing processes, automation, fixtures, set-up reduction. Experience with a mix of in-house development and contract management preferred.
Prior experience in facility design and layout and/or cellular manufacturing preferable
Demonstrated knowledge of management activities including budgeting, project planning, procurement, and specification development
Demonstrated strong leadership, development, interpersonal, influencing and communication skills, and ability in leading, developing and managing cross-functional teams
Demonstrated knowledge of cGMP’s and FDA regulations as pertains to process engineering preferable
Demonstrated strong negotiation and strategic planning skills
Demonstrated ability in leading programs at both the local and global level
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, modern algebra, and advanced statistical theory. Ability to work with concepts such as limits, rings, quadratic and differential equations, and proofs of theorems.
Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software, Design software, Development software, Internet software, Inventory software, Manufacturing software, Project Management software, Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
