Financial Analyst III
Financial Analysts’ are responsible for providing financial and analytical support to various laboratory programs including Scientific Services. Duties include but are not limited to working with directors/managers of these areas in developing their budgets, forecasts and financial strategic plans as well as day to day financial management of their areas and will also conduct complex cost/financial modeling analysis as needed.
Budgeting, Forecasting and Strategic Financial Planning: Works with program managers, financial managers, department managers or designated budget personnel to assist in operating/capital budgets, forecasts and longer term financial strategic planning. Assists in the development and financial viability analysis of capital projects lab wide.
Account Management / Variance Analysis: Monitors operations to assure compliance with budgets. Conducts variance analysis of actual costs/revenues vs. budget or forecast. Provides detailed explanations of the monthly financials, proposed budgets, forecasts and strategic plans. Assures accurate capture of costs and accruals as needed.
Cost Analysis: Analyze the financial impact of operational changes on operating budgets and reports to senior management. Assists managers in controlling their costs via cost and planning analysis specific to the managers’ areas. Insure that managers understand and can use the results of these analyses. As a result of these analyses, recommend process improvements that increase quality and/or reduces costs.
Financial Modeling: Evaluate operations and develop financial models for use of senior management to make sound financial resource and strategic planning decisions.
Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or a related subject and 5 years of successful experience in a position having financial analysis as the principal responsibility.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of budgeting with three (3) or more years of successful experience providing a systematic review, analysis, interpretation and/or evaluation of budgets as the principal responsibility.
- High level of proficiency using Excel, extensive work with pivot tables and report writing tools such as Power BI are required
- Ability to prepare a variety of financial statements, reports, analyses and model the economic dynamics of the departments they support.
