Be part of the change! Become a member of our dynamic and innovative team!
Maine Veterans’ Homes in Augusta is building a state-of-the-art facility and community center that is going to revolutionize the delivery of long-term care in Central Maine. MVH will be the first facility of its kind in Maine to provide personalized long-term care in a small-house complex that is thoughtfully designed to look and feel just like a real home.
What is the small house concept?
It is a distinctively different approach to long-term care, deinstitutionalizing the nursing home to self-contained, functioning units, called houses. Each house accommodates 10-12 residents. All rooms are private with full baths, and every house has a shared living room, dining room, den, and kitchen.
This innovative model has proven to be as attractive to those receiving care, as it is to staff and families. The small house approach empowers our residents to be as independent and self-sufficient as possible, fostering the philosophy, “there’s no place like home”.
The Small House Culture and Environment:
+ Shared leadership and decision making
+ High staff to resident ratio
+ Physical environment that supports social distancing and infection control
