Part-Time Code Enforcement Officer and Local Plumbing Inspector


The Town of Arrowsic (pop. 450) is accepting applications for the paid position of part-time Code Enforcement Officer. Historically, this position requires approximately 4 to 10 hours per week on an as-needed basis with a flexible schedule. The candidate works within a municipal team environment as well as individually without supervision. The Towns land use is residential; with ordinances that include zoning, shoreland, subdivision and floodplain management. 


The candidate must have strong verbal and writing communication skills, possess a valid drivers license, be able to navigate a construction site and available to attend monthly evening Planning Board meeting and occasional weekend site reviews. The position reports to the Selectboard and requires interpretation of legal issues with decisions consistent with State and local ordinances and guidelines.  A transitional period up to one year assisting the current Code Enforcement Officer is available for a less experienced candidate.


The Code Enforcement Officer is responsible for issuing permits, conducting inspections, maintaining records, investigating complaints, and answering questions from the public regarding applicable Town ordinances and adopted codes, reviewing permit applications, achieving compliance with the Town ordinances, relevant codes, State statutes and providing support to the Planning Board, Board of Appeals and the Selectboard when resolving violations.

The position requires an individual certified by the State of Maine or the ability to obtain all certifications required within one year of hire date.  Compensation includes salary and fees.
