Summary of Position
MGH and Central Maine Health Care (CMHC) have entered into an
incremental clinical affiliation agreement to develop integrated
clinical service lines primarily based at CMH. Primary and secondary
care will be focused at CMH and the affiliation will provide access to
MGH for sub-specialty complex tertiary/quaternary care. Clinically
integrated service lines will exhibit the sharing of best-practices and
develop quality and safety programs, IT interfaces and
marketing/communication plans. In collaboration with the identified
service line clinical leaders, Chief Medical Officers/Physician
Directors, Administrators, IT, and Marketing Directors from both
organizations, the incumbent is responsible for overseeing the
successful Integration and ongoing management of the MGH/CMH Clinical
Affiliation. This Director, through his/ her immersion into both
institutions, will also be responsible for identifying and developing
other mutually beneficial service lines and bringing them forward to the
appropriate leadership at both organizations. This position will work
collaboratively with the dyad leadership for each Service Line codified
within the Clinical Affiliation Agreement.
? Facilitate at the service line level, the development of
strategic/ business plans, associated documents, reports and dashboards
to demonstrate progress and Clinical Affiliation growth.
? Manage the various documented agreements between MGH and CMHC,
monitoring compliance, risk, renewal terms and ensuring clinical
affiliation activities are consistent with executed agreements and
? Serve as the primary representative from CMHC to the MGH/MGPO
and vice versa.
? Be a local resource/ support to the MGPO doctors who practice
onsite CMHC in a complementary manner to the operational manager/
? Maintain currency in knowledge related to clinical evidence
through implementation and evaluation of clinical guidelines and through
fostering research opportunities.
? Promote continuous performance improvement and clinical
decision support systems that are data-driven and evidence-based.
? Attend department, operations, and committee meetings.
? Perform periodic performance evaluations on management
personnel having direct reporting relationships.
? Collaborate with other clinicians to develop and implement
clinical improvements, engaging clinicians in patient safety and
performance improvement related to Surgery services in conjunction with
dyad Medical Director.
? Ensure that the infrastructure supports Joint Commission and

clinicians, physicians, and peers.

The ideal candidate will have the following professional qualifications
and personal characteristics:
? A Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, healthcare
administration, clinical or a related field is required.
? A Master’s degree (an MBA/MHA) or related field of study is
? Strong preference for candidates credentialed as a Fellow in
the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE).
? A minimum of eight to ten years of progressively responsible
management experience of a with emphasis on program development,
financial management and performance improvement is required.
? Experience leading a surgery service line or major
surgery-related departments. An understanding of building a system
surgery program, disease group by disease group.
? Experience with working closely and collaborating with
physician specialists and subspecialists to drive strategic/business
planning and financial and operational performance.
? A successful track record of service, growth, quality, and
? Experience partnering with an academic partner in clinical
trials expansion, referrals, and protocol adoption.
