Statement of the Job:

The Advanced Structures and Composites Center has Immediate Openings for Engineers to support research and development on the World’s Largest Thermoplastic 3D Printer.

The University of Maine Advanced Structures and Composites Center located in Orono, Maine recently installed the world’s largest thermoplastic 3D printer. In the process, the Center set 3 new Guinness World Records, including the largest 3D printed boat.

We are looking to expand our additive manufacturing team with engineers, scientists and technicians to support exponential research growth in this area, particularly in marine and infrastructure applications. This is an exciting and transformational new technology where together we need to understand the potential of applying this to new applications whilst at the same time writing the book on how to do it.

We are seeking a number of highly skilled individuals to join the world class team at the ASCC to expand our growing staff. Experience in key skills covering all aspects of 3D printing will be considered including: designing for AM using solid and surface modelling; structural analysis including structural and thermal finite element analysis; slicing and slicing software development; thermoplastic materials development, compounding and extrusion; 3D printer operation, controls development and modification; 5 axis CNC tool-pathing ideally with MasterCam experience; 5 axis CNC operation; materials testing; project and program management.

The majority of our funding for this work is through the Department of Defense so applications are expected to be limited to US Persons Only. *
