Job Description

Responsible for assisting with the administration and management of occupational health and safety programs within the Safety Engineering discipline. Duties include: identifying workplace hazards; providing direction on compliance with OSHA standards; assisting with establishing and maintaining safety and health programs and management systems; reviewing the effectiveness of compliance programs; identifying potential hazards and feasible means of abatement; providing technical clarification of standards and explanation of company procedures and directives; assisting management and supervision with the recognition and abatement of hazards; participating in regular scheduled workplace inspections; developing fall protection plans; conducting root cause accident and incident investigation and develop programs to mitigate hazards; provide training as necessary; supervise a team of union Safety Inspectors and attend conferences/training sessions as required.
Required/Preferred Education/Training

• Bachelor’s Degree in environmental, safety, and health science or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience required

ASP/CSP Preferred

• Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and industry standards
• Excellent written and oral communications skills
• Demonstrated training skills.
Required/Preferred Experience

• 3-5 years’ experience in a heavy industrial environment or Shipyard experience preferred
• Industrial Hygiene and / or ergonomics experience preferred
• Knowledge of Behavior Based Safety programs
• Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks and assignments required
• Must be certified to develop fall protection plans or obtain certification within 3 months of employment
